Ceiling Scanning
Capture ceiling geometry using the dedicated ceiling scanning mode with mesh capture.
Ceiling scanning mode
Section titled “Ceiling scanning mode”The ceiling scan feature uses:
- Mesh capture - Ceiling surface geometry
- Real-time visualization - Live mesh preview in AR view
- Start/Stop controls - Begin and complete scanning
Scanning a ceiling
Section titled “Scanning a ceiling”-
Open Ceiling Scan
- Select ceiling scan option
- Wait for system to initialize
-
Start Scanning
- Tap Start button when ready
- Tilt device upward 45-60 degrees
- Point at ceiling
-
Scan Coverage
- Slowly rotate in place while looking up
- Walk around room with device tilted up
- Watch mesh preview fill in with green overlay
-
Complete Scan
- Check mesh coverage for gaps
- Ensure all areas are captured
- Tap Stop button to save the ceiling scan
AR View display
Section titled “AR View display”The AR view shows:
- Green mesh overlay - Ceiling areas that have been captured
- Gaps - Areas needing more coverage
- Real-time updates - Mesh fills in as you scan
Coverage patterns
Section titled “Coverage patterns”Center rotation:
- Stand in room center
- Slowly rotate 360 degrees
- Keep device tilted up
Perimeter walk:
- Move to room edges
- Walk along walls with device tilted up
- Capture ceiling-wall junctions
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Incomplete mesh coverage:
- Scan from additional positions
- Improve ceiling lighting
- Hold device steadier
Gaps in mesh:
- Return to areas with gaps
- Scan from different angle
- Ensure adequate lighting
Mesh not updating:
- Hold device steadier
- Point directly at ceiling
- Check tracking status
Tracking issues:
- Point at textured ceiling areas
- Improve lighting
- Avoid reflective surfaces
Lighting
Section titled “Lighting”Turn on all ceiling lights for better mesh capture. Poor lighting reduces mesh quality and coverage.
Sloped walls and ceilings
Section titled “Sloped walls and ceilings”In attic spaces with sloped ceilings:
- Automatic detection - The app draws lines on sloped walls and knee walls automatically
- Verify geometry - Check that the ceiling slope looks correct in the 3D preview
- Rescan if needed - Use ceiling scanning mode if the shape isn’t captured accurately
Skylights and roof Windows
Section titled “Skylights and roof Windows”Skylights and roof windows are not captured automatically by the 3D scan:
-
Complete the room scan normally
-
Open the room configuration screen
-
Tap ”Add Window”
-
Position the Window on the sloped Ceiling surface
-
Enter dimensions manually if needed
Completing the scan
Section titled “Completing the scan”Stop when:
- Entire ceiling covered in mesh
- No significant gaps
- Ceiling-wall junctions captured
The scan is automatically saved when you tap Stop.
