Quick Start - iOS App
This guide shows how to Create a project, add floors, scan rooms, configure materials and heating, and upload data using the Plans iOS app.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- iPhone or iPad with LiDAR sensor
- Plans app installed from App Store
- Plans account
Step 1: login and navigate to projects
Section titled “Step 1: login and navigate to projects”-
Open the Plans app

Sign in with your account credentials

The home screen displays with two tabs:
- Projects: Your project list
- Account: Account settings

The Projects tab shows your projects
Step 2: create a project
Section titled “Step 2: create a project”-
Tap the ”+” button
-
Fill in the project details:
- Address: Building address
- Building Details: Additional building information

Tap ”Create Project”
-
The project appears in your Projects List
Step 3: add Storys
Section titled “Step 3: add s”-
Tap your project to open it
-
Tap “Add Story”
-
Select story type from the picker:
- Ground Story
- First Story
- Second Story
- Basement
- Other floor types
-
Repeat to add additional floors
-
Tap a floor to select it
Step 4: scan a Room
Section titled “Step 4: scan a ”-
Tap "Add Room" or "Scan room"

The camera view opens with AR scanning interface
-
Wait for the on-screen message to show “Ready to scan…” (green indicator)

Tap the red circular button to start recording
-
Walk slowly through the room, pointing your device at Walls, Floor, and Ceiling. You’ll see the room geometry building up on screen

If "Relocalizing" appears, move back to a previously scanned area until tracking recovers

If “Move a bit slower” appears, slow down your movement
-
When you’ve captured the whole room, tap the red button again to stop

You’ll see “Success!” when the scan is complete

Tap "Save" to keep the scan
Step 5: configure the room
Section titled “Step 5: configure the room”After scanning, the room configuration screen opens.
3D Preview
Section titled “3D Preview”The top of the screen displays a 3D preview of the scanned room. Drag to rotate and pinch to zoom.
Set heating type
Section titled “Set heating type”-
Find the Heating Selector section

Tap to select heating type:
- Radiator
- Underfloor heating
- No heating
- Other available types

The selection saves automatically
Assign Materials
Section titled “Assign ”The Materials Section has two modes:
Room defaults
Section titled “Room defaults”-
Tap “Room Defaults”

Set default materials for:
- Floor
- Wall
- Ceiling
-
These defaults apply to all surfaces without individual assignments
Individual surface assignment
Section titled “Individual surface assignment”-
Tap “Individual”
-
Tap a surface in the 3D preview
-
Select material from the list:
- Concrete
- Wood
- Tile
- Carpet
- Drywall
- Paint
- Other available materials

Repeat for additional surfaces
-
Surfaces without individual assignments display the Room Default material
Add Notes
Section titled “Add ”-
Scroll to the Notes section
-
Tap “Add Note”
-
Enter note text
-
Tap Save
-
Notes appear in a list below
-
Tap a note to Edit or Delete it
Step 6: room actions (bottom drawer)
Section titled “Step 6: room actions (bottom drawer)”The bottom drawer contains action buttons:
Ceiling scan

Tap "Ceiling scan"

Point device upward at the Ceiling

Tap the red record button
-
Move across the Ceiling area
-
Tap to stop and Save
New note
Section titled “”-
Tap "New note"

Tap a location in the 3D preview

Enter annotation text
-
Save the annotation
Add window
Section titled “”-
Tap "Add window"

Tap the Wall location in the 3D preview

Adjust size and position
-
Save the Window
Next room
Section titled “”-
Tap "Next room"

The current room saves and the camera view opens for a new room

Repeat the scanning and configuration process
Step 7: upload project data
Section titled “Step 7: upload project data”-
Tap the back button to return to the project overview

The project structure displays:
- Story list
- Room list under each floor
- Data summary

Tap the "Upload" button
-
Select upload method:
- WiFi Only
- Cellular
-
Tap “Start Upload”
-
Upload progress displays
-
Confirmation appears when upload completes
View on Web
Section titled “View on Web”After upload completes:

Go to platform.plans.app in a browser
-
Sign in with your account
-
Navigate to your project
-
Browse floors and rooms
-
View heating types, materials, and notes
-
View 3D data for each room
Working offline
Section titled “Working offline”The app operates without internet connection:
- Scanning works offline
- Projects save locally on device
- Floors, rooms, and settings can be added offline
- Upload occurs when connected to WiFi
- Local data persists until upload completes
On-screen messages during scanning
Section titled “On-screen messages during scanning”The app shows helpful messages to guide you:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| ”Getting the device ready …” | Wait a moment while the camera prepares |
| ”Ready to scan…” | You can start recording |
| "Scanning …" | Keep moving slowly through the room |
| "Relocalizing" | Move back to a previously scanned area until the camera finds its position |
| ”Move a bit slower” | Slow down your movement |
| ”Success!” | Scan complete – tap Save to keep it |
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Camera view won’t open
- Device requires LiDAR sensor
- Restart the app
- Check iOS is up to date
Message stays on “Getting the device ready …”
- Move your device slowly to help the camera map the room
- Make sure the camera lens is not covered
“Move a bit slower” keeps appearing
- Slow down your walking pace
- Hold your device more steadily
3D preview shows gaps
- Rescan the room
- Use Scan Ceiling action
- Move closer to incomplete surfaces
Upload fails
- Check internet connection
- Try WiFi instead of cellular
- Restart the upload
App runs slowly
- Close other apps
- Free device storage
- Restart the app
