Multi-Select and Batch Operations

The 3D viewer uses hierarchical selection. Work with multiple elements by selecting at higher levels in the hierarchy.

The 3D viewer supports multi-selection using the Shift key:

  • Hold Shift: Enables multi-select mode
  • Click elements while holding Shift: Toggles elements in/out of selection
  • Release Shift: Returns to single-select mode
  • Click empty space to clear selection

Additional selection methods are available through hierarchy and list views described below.

Select an entire building level:

  1. Click Story in the left hierarchy panel
  2. All rooms and elements in that story are included
  3. Properties panel shows story-level information
  4. Bulk operations can be applied to all elements in the story

Select a room:

  1. Click Room in the left hierarchy panel
  2. All elements (Walls, Floor, Ceiling) in that room are included
  3. Properties panel shows room properties and element summary
  4. Operations affect all room boundary elements

Work with element types through the hierarchy:

  1. Expand Story in hierarchy panel
  2. Navigate to Room containing elements
  3. View Element List showing all Walls, Floors, Windows, etc.
  4. Select element type node to see all elements of that type

Assign materials to multiple elements at once:

  1. Use Filter List in the left panel to select multiple elements
  2. Check boxes next to elements to include in selection
  3. Click Bulk Material Assignment button in the filter bar
  4. Bulk Material Dialog opens with selected elements
  5. Choose material from dropdown catalog
  6. Apply Changes to all selected elements

Note: Bulk assignment is accessed through the filter list system, not directly from story/room selection.

When using the filter list to select multiple elements:

  • Assign Material: Apply same material to all selected elements via bulk dialog
  • Export Selection: Export selected elements data

Note: Most element properties (B-Factor, Orientation, Inclination) must be edited individually. The bulk operations are limited to material assignment and data export.

Use layer controls to focus on specific element types:

  1. Open Layers Panel (right sidebar or toolbar)
  2. Toggle Element Types:
    • Walls
    • Floors
    • Roofs
    • Windows
    • Doors
  3. Hidden elements are not selectable in 3D view
  4. Still accessible through hierarchy panel

Access tabular view of elements:

  1. Navigate to Elements Section (may be separate from 3D viewer)
  2. View Element Table with all building elements listed
  3. Use Checkboxes to select multiple rows
  4. Perform Batch Operations on checked elements

Apply filters to create selection groups:

  • Filter by Element Type: Show only walls, or only windows
  • Filter by Story: Show elements from specific floors
  • Filter by Material: Find all elements with specific material
  • Filter by B-Factor: Show elements by thermal exposure
  • Filter by Room: Show elements belonging to a room

Then perform operations on filtered set:

  • Export selection
  • Assign new materials
  • Update properties
  • Generate reports

Instead of selecting individual elements, select their parent.

For small numbers of elements, edit them one at a time:

  1. Select first element in 3D view
  2. Edit properties in right panel
  3. Navigate to next element using hierarchy or 3D click
  4. Repeat edits

Use specialized tools that work with multiple elements:

  • Split Tools: Split multiple elements in sequence
  • Bulk Material Dialog: Apply materials to multiple elements at story or room level
