Material Selection

Material Selection

Materials are assigned to building elements through dropdown menus in the element properties panel.

Selecting materials

For an Element:

1. Select element in 3D viewer or element list
2. Properties panel displays on right side
3. Locate Material dropdown field
4. Click dropdown to open material selection menu

Dropdown Sections:

• Recently Used: Last materials assigned (top of list)
• Shortlist: Starred/favorited materials
• Search Results: Type to search all available materials

Searching materials

1. Click in Material dropdown
2. Type material name or description
3. Results filter as you type
4. Click material to Select

The dropdown automatically filters materials by element type (Walls show Wall materials, Floors show Floor materials, etc.).

Shortlisting materials

Add to Shortlist:

1. Open Material dropdown
2. Hover over material
3. Click star icon

Remove from Shortlist:

1. Open Material dropdown
2. Locate material in Shortlist section
3. Click star icon again

Shortlisted materials appear at top of dropdown for quick access.

Creating custom materials

1. Open Material dropdown for an element
2. Click Add icon (plus button)
3. Dialog opens with form fields:
   • Name: Enter material name
   • Element Type: Auto-filled based on selected element
   • U-value: Enter U-value (required)
   • Description: Optional notes
4. Click Confirm or Save

Custom material appears in dropdown and can be assigned immediately.

Material information displayed

In dropdown menu:

• Name
• U-value
• Star icon (for shortlisting)

In properties panel after assignment:

• Name
• U-value (read-only)

Troubleshooting

Material not appearing in dropdown

• Check you’re editing the correct element type
• Try typing exact material name in search
• Check if material was created for wrong element type

Can’t create custom material

• Verify Name field is filled
• Verify U-value field has numeric value
• Check internet connection
• Try refreshing page

Custom material disappeared

• Check you saved it after creating
• Verify you clicked Confirm in dialog
• Material may have failed to Save - try creating again
