Export Validation and Requirements

The export system validates your project data and provides feedback on what needs to be completed before generating export files.

How validation works

Validation occurs automatically as you work on your project. The system checks for completeness across all export requirements and displays errors that prevent export.

Validation locations

Export Button:

• Located in top-right of Details Panel
• Becomes disabled when validation errors exist
• Tooltip explains what needs to be fixed

Export Tab:

• Alert banners at the top show validation issues
• Different colors indicate severity (red for errors, yellow for warnings)
• Each banner explains the specific issue

Export button status

The Export button reflects the current validation state of your project.

Disabled state

Button is grayed out and not clickable when:

• Critical validation errors exist
• Required data is missing
• Project has unsaved changes
• You are offline

To enable export:

1. Hover over the disabled button to see the validation tooltip
2. Read the list of required fixes
3. Address each validation error
4. Button becomes active once all errors are resolved

Enabled state

Button is active and clickable when all validation requirements are met.

To export:

1. Click the Export button
2. System generates XML file
3. Download begins automatically

Validation categories

The system checks several categories of data before allowing export.

Material assignment validation

Requirement: All envelope elements must have materials assigned.

Error Message: “Some building elements are missing material assignments”

How to Fix:

1. Navigate to the Details Panel
2. Click through elements in the 3D viewer or hierarchy
3. Assign materials to any elements showing as incomplete
4. Use bulk material assignment for faster completion

Template selection validation

Requirement: A template must be selected for the export.

Error Message: “Energy certification template must be selected”

How to Fix:

1. Open the Export tab in Details Panel
2. Scroll to the Template section at the top
3. Select a template from the dropdown
4. Template selection is saved automatically

Notes completion validation

Requirement: All notes must be marked as completed (iOS only).

Error Message: “All tasks must be completed”

How to Fix:

1. This validation applies to notes created in the iOS app
2. Open the project in iOS
3. Review and complete any outstanding notes
4. Upload the updated project to web

Unsaved changes validation

Requirement: All changes must be saved before export.

Error Message: “You have unsaved changes”

How to Fix:

1. Click the Save button in the top toolbar
2. Wait for save confirmation
3. Export button becomes enabled once save completes

Offline validation

Requirement: Internet connection required for export.

Error Message: “You are offline”

How to Fix:

1. Check your internet connection
2. Reconnect to the network
3. Refresh the page if needed
4. Export button becomes enabled once online

Validation warnings

Some validation issues are warnings rather than errors. These display as yellow alert banners in the Export tab but do not prevent export.

Missing material templates

Warning: “Materials with proposals not set”

What it means:

• Some materials have available construction templates
• Templates have not been assigned
• Export can proceed, but templates provide additional detail

Recommended Action:

1. Review the list of materials in the warning
2. Navigate to Export tab
3. Expand rows for those materials in the building elements tables
4. Consider assigning templates for more detailed construction information

Unassigned shortlist materials

Warning: “Unassigned materials from shortlist”

What it means:

• Materials in your shortlist haven’t been used
• This is informational only
• Export can proceed normally

Recommended Action:

• Review if any shortlisted materials should be assigned
• No action required if intentional

Validation workflow

Step 1: check export button

1. Look at the Export button in the Details Panel
2. If enabled (clickable), you can export
3. If disabled (grayed out), hover to see requirements

Step 2: review validation errors

1. Open the Export tab in Details Panel
2. Read alert banners at the top
3. Each banner explains a specific validation issue
4. Red banners are errors that block export
5. Yellow banners are warnings that don’t block export

Step 3: fix critical errors

Address each error:

Missing Materials:

• Assign materials to all building elements
• Use Details Panel or bulk assignment

Missing Template:

• Select template in Export tab
• Choose from available options

Unsaved Changes:

• Click Save button
• Wait for confirmation

Offline:

• Restore internet connection
• Refresh page

Step 4: verify export readiness

1. Return to Export button
2. Confirm it’s enabled
3. Tooltip should no longer show errors
4. All red alert banners should be resolved

Step 5: export

1. Click the enabled Export button
2. Wait for file generation
3. Download XML file automatically

Export data tables

The Export tab contains several data tables showing your building information. While these don’t have individual validation indicators, the data they contain is validated as part of the overall export requirements.

Building elements tables

Walls, Floors, and Ceilings:

• Groups elements by material
• Shows area, U-value, orientation
• Allows construction template assignment

Doors and Windows:

• Groups openings by material
• Shows area, U-value, orientation
• Allows construction template assignment

Linear Transmittance:

• Shows thermal bridge lengths
• Groups by type
• Displays Psi-values

Area calculation tables

BBR Areas:

• Calculated area totals
• Area by zone type
• Compliance with BBR standards

Measured Areas Summary:

• Floor, wall, roof areas
• Window and Door areas
• Foundation area

Troubleshooting validation

Export button won’t enable

If all errors appear fixed but export is still disabled:

1. Check for alert banners in Export tab
2. Scroll through all sections
3. Verify no red banners remain
4. Try refreshing the page
5. Ensure you’re online

Can’t find validation error

If an error is mentioned but you can’t locate the problem:

1. Review each alert banner carefully
2. Check Details Panel for elements without materials
3. Use the hierarchy to systematically check each story/room
4. Look for elements with missing properties

Validation doesn’t update

If you fixed an error but validation still shows it:

1. Ensure changes were saved
2. Click Save button if needed
3. Refresh the Export tab
4. Close and reopen Details Panel
5. Refresh the entire page if needed

Export fails after passing validation

If export button is enabled but export generation fails:

1. Check browser console for errors
2. Verify internet connection is stable
3. Try exporting again
4. Check if you were disconnected during export
5. Contact support if issue persists with error details

All building data is created in the iOS app or edited in the web interface. The Export tab provides a comprehensive view of your project data organized for thermal envelope export. Export format is XML following the Energy Performance Certificate standard required for energy calculations.
