Child Elements

Child elements are openings within building elements.

Building Elements (Wall, Floor, Ceiling)
└── Children
├── Door
├── Window
├── Hatch
└── Opening

Parent Elements:

  • Walls, Floors, Ceilings

Child Elements:

  • Door, Window, Hatch, Opening
  • Associated with one parent element
  • Have separate material assignment

Door

Opening with door assembly.

Opening with window assembly.

Opening with hatch assembly.

Opening without specific assembly.

Using 3D Viewer Tools:

  1. Select tool from tool palette (Place Window, Place Door, Place Hatch)
  2. Click on parent element in 3D view
  3. Position child element
  4. Set properties in panel
  5. Assign material

Manual Entry:

  1. Select parent element in element list
  2. Click Add Child Element button
  3. Select type (Door, Window, Hatch, Opening)
  4. Enter properties:
    • Name
    • Material
    • Area or dimensions
  5. Click Save

Access Properties:

  1. Expand parent element in element list
  2. Select child element
  3. Properties panel displays on right

Editable Properties:

  • Name: Text identifier
  • Type: Door, Window, Hatch, or Opening
  • Material: Assigned material
  • Area: Surface area value
  • Position: Location coordinates (if applicable)

Child elements have separate materials from parent elements.

Process:

  1. Select child element
  2. Properties panel displays on right
  3. Click Material dropdown
  4. Select appropriate material:
    • Door materials for doors
    • Window materials for windows
    • Hatch materials for hatches
  5. Material applies immediately

In Element List (Left Panel):

  • Expand parent element to show children
  • Child elements display indented below parent

In 3D Viewer:

  • Child elements display on parent surface
  • Click to Select
  • Selected child highlights

In Properties Panel:

  • Select child element to view properties
  • Edit fields as needed

Can’t add child element

  • Verify parent element is selected
  • Check you have Edit permissions
  • Ensure parent element type supports children

Child element not visible in 3D view

  • Check visibility settings
  • Zoom in closer
  • Verify child was saved

Material not assigning to child

  • Ensure material type matches element type (door material for door, etc.)
  • Check Material dropdown is accessible
  • Try refreshing page

Can’t find child element

  • Check parent element is expanded in element list
  • Verify child was saved
  • Try collapsing and re-expanding parent
