iOS Permissions Issues
iOS Permissions Issues
Section titled “iOS Permissions Issues”This guide helps resolve camera and sensor permission problems that prevent scanning.
Camera access denied
Section titled “Camera access denied””Camera Access Required” message
Section titled “”Camera Access Required” message”If the app displays “Camera access is required to scan rooms” or similar warning, try these solutions:
Check Privacy & Security settings: Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera. Scroll to find the Plans app in the list. Enable the toggle next to the app name. If the app is not in the list, proceed to reinstall steps below.
Restart the app: Force quit the app completely (swipe up from app switcher). Reopen the app. Check if camera access prompt appears.
Delete and reinstall app: Delete the app completely from your device. Restart your device. Reinstall from App Store. When prompted, tap “Allow” for camera access.
App not listed in camera settings
Section titled “App not listed in camera settings”If the Plans app does not appear in Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera, this indicates the app has never requested camera permission. Try these solutions:
iOS 18+ permission behavior: iOS 18 changed how permissions work. Some apps may not appear until first permission request. Launch the app and attempt to start scanning. The permission prompt should appear. Tap “Allow” when prompted.
Reinstall the app: Delete the app completely. Restart your device. Reinstall from App Store. Open the app and start a new scan to trigger permission prompt.
Check iOS version: Navigate to Settings > General > About. Verify you are running iOS 18.0 or later. If not, update via Settings > General > Software Update.
Screen time restrictions
Section titled “Screen time restrictions”Screen Time parental controls or restrictions can block camera access without obvious warnings.
Check content & privacy restrictions
Section titled “Check content & privacy restrictions”If camera access is blocked even after enabling in Privacy settings, check Screen Time restrictions:
Navigate to Screen Time: Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
Enable camera access: Tap “Allowed Apps & Features”. Ensure “Camera” toggle is enabled (green). Ensure setting shows “Allow Change” not “Don’t Allow Change”.
Allow Photos access: In same section, ensure “Photos” is set to “Allow Change”.
Exit and test: Close Settings. Force quit the Plans app. Reopen and test camera access.
Screen time passcode required
Section titled “Screen time passcode required”If Content & Privacy Restrictions are grayed out or require a passcode:
This device has Screen Time enabled: You need the Screen Time passcode to change restrictions. If you don’t know the passcode, contact the device owner or administrator. For personal devices, you can reset Screen Time passcode via Apple ID recovery.
Managed device: If this is a company or school device, contact your IT administrator. Managed devices may have policies preventing camera access.
Permission prompt Not appearing
Section titled “Permission prompt Not appearing”First launch permission denied
Section titled “First launch permission denied”If you tapped “Don’t Allow” when the app first requested camera permission, iOS will not ask again. Try these solutions:
Reset via Settings: Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera. Find the Plans app. Enable the toggle. Restart the app.
If app not in Settings list: Delete and reinstall the app completely. Open the app. When permission prompt appears, tap “Allow”.
Permission reset after update
Section titled “Permission reset after update”Sometimes iOS updates or app updates reset permissions. Try these solutions:
Check current permissions: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera. Verify the Plans app toggle is enabled. Do the same for Photos if prompted.
Re-grant permission: If toggle is disabled, enable it. Force quit and restart the app.
LiDAR Sensor access
Section titled “LiDAR Sensor access”LiDAR Hardware requirements
Section titled “LiDAR Hardware requirements”The Plans app requires LiDAR hardware for room scanning. LiDAR is available only on:
iPhone models:
- iPhone 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max (and newer Pro models)
iPad models:
- iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation or newer, 2020+)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation or newer, 2020+)
Standard (non-Pro) iPhone and iPad models do NOT have LiDAR and cannot capture scans.
Verify LiDAR is working
Section titled “Verify LiDAR is working”If you have a compatible device but LiDAR is not working, try these verification steps:
Check for physical blockage: Remove any case or screen protector. Ensure LiDAR sensor (near rear camera) is clean and unobstructed. Wipe gently with a clean, soft cloth.
Test with another camera: Point your device’s rear camera at a wall. Open another device’s camera and point it at your device’s LiDAR sensor. You should see a faint pattern of dots when LiDAR is active. If no dots visible, LiDAR may have hardware failure.
Test with Measure app: Open Apple’s built-in Measure app. Point at flat surface. If Measure app cannot detect surfaces or show measurements, this indicates LiDAR hardware issue. Contact Apple Support.
Restart device: Press and hold power button. Slide to power off. Wait 30 seconds. Power back on. Test scanning again.
iOS 18 specific issues
Section titled “iOS 18 specific issues”Apps can’t access camera after iOS 18 update
Section titled “Apps can’t access camera after iOS 18 update”iOS 18 introduced new privacy controls that sometimes block camera access. Try these solutions:
Check Privacy & Security: Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera. Verify the Plans app is in the list and enabled. If not listed, Delete and reinstall the app.
Reset Privacy Settings: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy. This will reset all privacy settings to default. You will need to re-grant permissions to all apps.
Update to latest iOS: Go to Settings > General > Software Update. Install any available iOS updates. Newer iOS 18.x versions fixed several permission bugs.
Still having issues
Section titled “Still having issues”If camera or sensor access still does not work after trying these solutions:
Contact support: Provide the following information:
- Device model (e.g., “iPhone 15 Pro”)
- iOS version (Settings > General > About > iOS Version)
- Screenshot of Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera
- Whether app appears in Camera settings list
- Whether you have Screen Time enabled
Check for hardware issues: If other camera apps also fail (Measure app, Camera app showing errors), you may have hardware failure. Contact Apple Support or visit Apple Store.
