Assigning Materials

Assign materials to building elements using the app’s 3-level material system.

The material assignment system has three levels:

Pre-select materials for the entire project in project mode.

  • Contains all materials available in project
  • Managed once at project level
  • See Material Shortlist guide

Set default materials for Walls, Floors, Ceilings, Doors, and Windows in room mode.

  • Choose from project materials
  • Applied automatically to room elements

Assign specific materials to individual elements.

  • Override room defaults when needed
  • Select specific layers or components
  • Use 3D model to select exact element
  1. Navigate to a room
  2. Tap Materials or Room Defaults
  3. Material selection screen opens in room mode
  4. Set defaults for:
    • Walls (interior finish)
    • Floor (finish material)
    • Ceiling (finish material)
    • Doors (door material/type)
    • Windows (glazing type)
  5. For each element type:
    • Tap the element type
    • Select material from project materials
    • Tap Assign as Default
  6. Tap Save

Defaults apply automatically to all elements of that type in the room.

  1. Navigate to the room with the element
  2. Access the material assignment view for that element
  3. The assignment screen shows a scan preview at the top
  4. Tap to select an element in the preview
  5. Material assignment options appear
  6. Choose material from project materials
  7. Set Thickness or quantity if required
  8. Tap Assign or Save

The material is assigned to that specific element.

The material assignment view includes a scan preview showing your building elements:

For Walls:

  • Tap exterior finish layer
  • Tap insulation layer
  • Tap interior finish layer
  • Tap structural layer

For Floors/Ceilings:

  • Tap finish layer
  • Tap subfloor/structure
  • Tap insulation
  • Tap air gap or cavity

For Windows/Doors:

  • Tap frame material
  • Tap glazing or panel

Individual assignments override room defaults:

  1. Room has Wall default: “Paint on Drywall”
  2. Most Walls use this default automatically
  3. One Wall needs different material: “Tile”
  4. Use the element material assignment screen on that specific Wall
  5. Assign “Tile” to interior finish layer
  6. That Wall now shows “Tile”, others still show “Paint on Drywall”

When assigning materials:

  • Material name (from project materials)
  • Thickness or area
  • Layer position
  • Installation notes
  • Condition (existing vs. planned)
  • Determined by (how you determined the material)

Document how you determined the material:

  • Drill sample - Physical samples or core samples taken
  • Estimate - Inspection - Based on visual inspection
  • Homeowner - Information provided by property owner
  1. Open room’s material selection screen (room mode)
  2. Select element type
